Hold onto your really scary hats, boys and girls. We’re presenting the bitchinest Halloween song ever to drizzle down a sewer pipe to rip out your neck flesh.

This is The Undead (You can’t much more Halloween that that, can you?) Guest vocals by Kat from Croatia. (If you close your eyes, and she lays on her accent thick, she sounds just like Dracula’s sister) This is scary fucking stuff! Gregg plays the zombie. There’s even a zombie in this video. We went all out for our Halloween theme. We spared no expense below 200 hundred dollars. This thing was massive. Scorsese would have shit his pants just contemplating the enormity of our grandeur.

Holy fuck!!! This guy is 61 this week. If you think you’re scared, imagine what he feels!

Kevin blissfully holding up “WATER FROM HELL!!!!” He went to drink it and it pounced down his throat like a demented cat and sucked out his uvula. (That’s not nearly as pleasant as it sounds!)

What’s that in his ear? Oh my GOD!!! Shove a fucking crowbar in there before it escapes and eats us all!!!!

“Oh NO!!!! The Christmas Wrapping Creature is eating Kevin’s face off. For the love of all that’s holy, somebody stop it!!!!!”

Sure they look happy here. This was just before Carissa stripped down to her underwear and a guy in a hockey mask cut off both her thumbs and shoved them up into her brain through her nose!!!! (Ellis did nothing to come to her aid)

The two on either side of me were mercilessly and indescribably slaughtered over a number of unendurable hours of agony and torment. Luckily I was spared.

Darrell would have gotten a picture of the acid drooling demon that burst up through the floor boards and tore Dan to pieces with it razor sharp, blood red teeth, but he couldn’t quite figure out the flash in time.

This is Carissa just before she plucked out her own eyes in a desperate attempt to wipe away the vision of Ellis’ bent-over-ass-crack from her decimated brain.

This is Kevin being possessed by a very mellow demon.

“Sure my eyes are glowing from the brimstone of hell’s darkest and unholiest furnace, but is my lipstick on right?”

Don’t Tell Betsy (Acoustic) – Live at Room 5

Well, this was a night to remember. The acoustic version of Don’t Tell Betsy (the band minus second guitar and bass) took the stage for their premier performance and it was a magnificent success.

At times, the entire was quiet and listening to the lovely Carissa sing. How many bars have you been in where people have actually shut up to listen to the act on stage. It’s hard enough at a major concert to get the audience to pay attention. They did three covers. The stand out was Real Man. Carissa has just the right bluesy tone to put this over big time. Of the originals, I Am Your Waitress had the audience absolutely quiet as they followed the story. Carissa did a little acting as she sang her way to the punchline. A great job. The boys did a very nice back and forth guitar/bongo piece The Way I Do. There wasn't a moment that night where the other acts didn't wish they were somewhere else. Bravo!

Here are a couple of songs from the show. We encourage everyone to come out to the next performance. Don’t worry, we will let you know what that will be.

Why Don’t You Call Me – this has a little bit on an island feel to it and Ellis’ bongos hit just the right note. Carissa’s dreamy, laidback singing is wonderful on this. And Kevin throws in some tasty guitar.

Stupidest Girl in the World – The sound isn’t quite as good on this, but a very nice version of this heartfelt ballad.

Well, some exciting things happening on the DTB front! First of all, we are getting our set list really tight so that we can play for ALL our adoring fans in Los Angeles.We've also put together an acoustic trio so that we can play smaller, more intimate venues. This smaller group includes Carissa, Kevin, and Ellis. The songs sound fantastic and have really given new life to the songs we all know and love. Ellis contemplates whether lead-filled bongos were such a wise investment.

"I swear if Kevin says 'spank those bongos' one more time, I'll shoot him. No, I'll kill him. Then I'll shoot him."

Even with the headphones up all the way blasting AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell', Kevin still cannot drown out Ellis' bongo playing.

Kevin: "I swear to you guys - if I look at just the right angle I can see a little man living inside my guitar. I'm not kidding. Hey! He just waved at me!"

Ellis: "Ummm, Carissa....what did you put in those sausages?"

Kevin's Guitar Corner

Albert Lee & John Jorgenson

Canyon Club, Agoura Hills, CA

The other night I had the extreme pleasure of seeing guitar greats, Albert Lee and John Jorgenson at the Canyon Club in Agoura, CA. Nice venue if not just a tad outdated decor wise. But I mean that in a good way. It's not a hip Hollywood joint, with stainless steel or lots of neon lights and really loud thumping unbearable music. It's like a small House Of Blues, without all the pretentiousness and cost. In fact, during the dinner hours before the band actually took the stage, the music out of the house system was perfect. Nice selection of tunes and not loud! They had the good notion to keep the volume down so you could actually converse. What a concept. Lots of seating, in fairly comfy chairs, at tables, or a few couches scattered here and there. The three of us had a table just a bit left of stage about 10 -12 feet from the stage. We had dinner which was a little pricey, but from what I read about the joint the owner is good to his acts and he makes his money on food and drinks to keep the ticket prices down. These were only $20, so that in itself isn't too bad these days. I paid a ton more to see Clapton at the Hollywood Bowl, so this my friends, was a bargain and a half. I recommend the place to see anyone.

The food wasn't bad, as I opted for the cheapest meal on their menu. The beers at $7 for a Newcastle was a bit high, but the salad was fresh and nice greens and pretty good bleu cheese dressing, potato was good too, so overall it was a good night and great music. I will be returning soon I hope. I saw that Robben Ford is playing next month. The Canyon Club features a lot of great acts and I don't have to trek to Hollywood or somewhere and pay exorbitant parking rates. Plenty of free parking, and if you get there early you can check out all the antique stores in the little plaza next door to the Canyon Club.

What can I say about Albert, he's the guitarist's guitarist. Eric Clapton says he's his favorite guitarist. He's played with everyone from the Everly's to Emmylou Harris' Hot Band to Eric Clapton to every country Nashville player, like Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Danny Gatton and Brent Mason. He's even tours with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings.

When Albert and John took to the stage, which was rounded out by very good musicians - Jeff Ross on keyboards, Lance Hoppen on bass, and Jason Smith on drums, they opened up with a rousing rendition of Dave Edmunds' 'Sweet Little Lisa', to which Albert and John got their respective licks in. Great opener. They went onto play 'Big Hunka Love' by Elvis, 'Mystery Girl', a nice Orbison tune, and ended the opening set with Gram Parsons' 'Luxury Liner'.

Albert then left the stage, and John Jorgenson stayed out, and for those of you not familiar with him, he was a member of the Desert Rose Band, The Hellecasters and Elton John's band just to name a few of the people he's played with. Plus he's got his own Gypsy Jazz band in the style of Django Reinhardt which he really does justice to. He's an amazing guitarist, and a really nice guy to boot. He opened with a great rendition of George Harrison's 'Love You To', and was coaxing some really nice sitar sounds out of his Strat. He went on to play 'If It Be Your Will' and ended with his own tune 'Back On Terra Firma' from the first Hellecasters album.

Albert came out again and played up on an old Buddy Holly tune, 'Rock Around With Ollie Vee', Little Feat's 'Rad Gumbo' - a fav of his he plays a lot that I've seen online. Albert then brought out his daughter, Alexandra to sing 'She' by Gram Parsons. Really nice change of pace and a nice song, and she has a terrific voice. He ended his little set with Ray Charles' 'Leave My Woman Alone'.

Again, another little set of just Albert on piano and John on acoustic guitar, singing and playing 'Devoted To You' by the Everly's and 'Til I Gain Control Again' by Rodney Crowell.

The rest of the band then joined them for the last set, which included Albert's band Hogan's Heroes own 'Tear It Up', 'Well Alright' again by Holly, 'Evangelina', a nice Hoyt Axton tune and ended with Albert's most well known tune, 'Country Boy', which he wrote some forty years ago, and it gets better everytime I hear it. Both Albert and John had extended solos in this one joined on this by guest violinist Scarlet Rivera, whom some of you might know from Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue. It was like a rockabilly heaven hearing these two play. For the encore they did a long wicked version of 'Orange Blossom Special', sort of in the vein the Hellecasters did on their first album.

If you ever get a chance to see these two in action, do so, you won't be disappointed, especially if you are a fan of this type of music or are just a guitar player. I still don't believe my guitar has as many notes on the neck as Albert's or John's, but I'll keep searching for them. And many thanks to John Jorgenson for the set list.

We spent decades researching this before we wrote and recorded a note of this song. We took advantage of every new technology. Shabby Road Studios About to Premiere New Song

Get ready folks! A brand new Don't Tell Betsy song is about to make its debut. Seventeen hundred studio hours in the making, this song promises to be everything that Andy Dick isn't. No expense was spared in bringing you this recording that you're not going to hear in this blog. But boy, when you do hear it, you're gonna say, "Wow! That is nothing like Andy Dick at all". And you'll be right. So without further ado, here are some pictures of Shabby Road Studios during the making of this epic song...which you'll eventually here, but not now.

The purest of waters is but putrefied sludge compared to the noble, blessed, musical heart of our beloved guitarist. That is why 4 out of five doctors recommend drinking Kevin's heart over Evian.

“Oh my God! I just remembered who I had sex with last night.”

Sometimes a man has to stand alone. But it usually takes Ellis two to three hours to realize that he’s standing alone. Then he gets quite lonely.

Although the rest of her is still single, Carissa’s left nostril was married at a very young age.

“Hmmm. If sound can’t travel through a vacuum, why are vacuum cleaners so darned noisy?”

“Seven thousand bands in L.A. and I have to end up with Dick and the three Wads.”

“Oh please, dear Lord. If you could just whack Ellis. He’s so very old and I hear Tommy Lee is single again.”

Ellis seriously considers buying a product called, “Groupie In A Tube.”

This is what the rest of the band looks like to Carissa.

Trying to contain Kevin’s talent in one room, is like trying to hold the wind in your hand. Like trying to kiss a river. Like trying to give nuggies to the moon. Like….ah fuck it, he’s really good.

“If I can just get into these two fuckers’ wills, then I am golden.”

The band’s massive investment in a bra-piercing camera proved to be a huge disappointment.

'Boy Next Door' is a bouncy little tune about a girl taking "Being Neighborly" to the next level. Who lives across the lawn from you?

This is very exciting. A while back, Kat of Death of the Author Brigade stepped in and did an unbelievable guest vocal on 'The Undead' by Don't Tell Betsy. Well, these two incestuous bands are back at it with a brand new song. On 'I'm in Love With the Boy Next Door', Kat is dazzling on lead vocals, while Carissa from Don't Tell Betsy chips in with some heavenly harmonies. Aaron (he does keys for both bands) rocks out on the keys, and Daniel (he has contributed to every recording produced in the last 35 years) pretty well does everything else. Special thanks to Ivan from Croatia too!

Kat, the hardest working woman in Showbiz! This is one of her finest vocals with the band.

Carissa has been with Don’t Tell Betsy for about six months. She obviously hasn’t notice how old the rest of us are yet. We keep distracting her with Jr. Mints.

Aaron started playing with Death of the Author Brigade at 14. Now he’s 17 and plays with both Author Brigade and Don’t Tell Betsy.

Shabby Road Studios returns to Sanctuary Entertainment

Well folks, Don’t Tell Betsy was back at Sanctuary Entertainment and we weren’t taking any prisoners. We are deep, deep, deep into the recording of two new songs. (She Already Knows and On My Mind) Thousands of man hours have been spent to ensure that you, the listening public, get the finest musical product modern technology and 73 dollars will buy. Now you are about to gaze upon the glory that is musical Rome.

Just before we start the recording session, Barry takes one last look at his bank account online to see if he really has to put up with these assholes for the next 4 hours.

While on a small break, Carissa is suddenly transported back to her nightly fantasies about the Tin Man’s hat funnel.

Kevin stands resplendent and calm. The wisdom of the Gods lay beneath his sublimely quaffed pate. There are no words to describe, nor song to adequately herald his ultimate supremeness.

Ellis waits for just the right moment, to jump up like an avenging angel and sucker-punch Barry in the back of the head.

Big D. tries to figure out how much the band would save on the session if he stole all the toilet paper from Barry’s studio bathroom.

“Where the fuck did they find a goat in Encino?”

Darrell suddenly realizes that the goat video wasn’t going to work and it was now eating Barry’s Pekinese.

This is the only way Carissa can record her vocals and keep members of the band from licking her.

“Hey Barry, I think your gold clock is busted, man?”

“For some reason, my boobs smell like Aspercreme.”

Darrell and Ellis wait for the perfect moment to tell Barry that they don’t have any money.

“Boy, if I were David Carradine, I could just chop his fucking head off with my hand and fill up this empty coke bottle with his spurting blood!”

Ellis dreams of a day when he’s so famous that he can always dress like Corporal Lebeau from Hogan’s Heroes.

The morning sun only rises so that it may catch a glimpse of his comely countenance. The moon and the mighty ocean work in tandem so that the tide may humbly lap at his blessed feet. Though empires may rise and fall and towering fortresses crumble to dust, the name of Kevin shall forever remain in the hearts of man.

A tribute to Victoria Lee Breen Kalkbrenner

This is a tribute to my mom, Vicki Kalkbrenner, and all her glorious, kooky, silly, & interesting 53 years on planet Earth. She was born on this day, January 7, in 1958 at around 5am at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. My grandmother, Virginia Orlando Breen, went in the night before to give birth to her first-born and only daughter. I hear it was cold on January 7, but when is it not cold in St. Louis, Missouri during Winter?! My grandma and grandpa proceeded to have 3 more children, all boys (Robert Jr, Steven, and Timothy), but Victoria remained the princess. My mom has had a a pretty full life, one filled with great joy, hardships, wonderful events, and true blessings. No one can ever say that she and my father ever had it easy, especially raising 2 bratty twins (I love you, Chris!), but the hardships they endured taught my brother and I life lessons that we shall never forget.

Disclaimer: Mom, there are not a lot of "Victoria" songs out there, but I think you can appreciate the ones I had Darrell dig up for you!

The first song is only fitting for my mother, the princess. It is "Victoria" by The Kinks, released in 1969 on the concept album Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire). It is, of course, about Queen Victoria. Ray Davies wrote the lyrics in satirical fashion about 19th century Britain. I think these particular lines apply to my mom, although she is obviously not a real queen: "From the rich to the poor, Victoria loved them all". So true about my mom! She actually once loved a cow named Lucky that was 3 times her size!

The next song I (or rather Darrell) found is one called "Victoria" (also known as "Victoria Lee"....crazy right?!) by the Old 97's released on the album Wreck Your Life on May 23, 1996. The line I particularly like, although all of them are great, is "Victoria, you dance so fast that no one else can see." My mom, though, puts on a show when she dances. Now I don't know how many of you have witnessed this, but I am guessing all of her friends and family have. It is a sight to behold! When she & my dad decide to dirty dance to "Mustang Sally", you better get your ass off the dance floor for there is no competing with their talent.

The last song that I have chosen to feature is a ridiculous one! "Victoria" by Lavvi Ebbel was released on the album Victoria in1982. Although a Belgium pop band, this song is mostly in English except for the occasion French words and phrases thrown in here and there. This song was apparently a huge hit. I wish I could say that there are lyrics here that I can somehow apply to my mother, but unfortunately I cannot. She's not rich or young (well, youth is in the eye of the beholder or the one who is turning older), she doesn't have a sports car (even though the Lincoln Town Car is a nice ride), she doesn't live in Paris (is Cedar Hill close?), and she doesn't really phone me (though she texts like a madman).

The bottom line is that I love my mother no matter what. I wouldn't have spent my Monday evening researching these songs to come up with stuff that I could apply to her. She is the reason I live, the reason I haven't been poor since I moved to Los Angeles 3+ years ago, and the reason that I become more ridiculous as I get older. I hate to say it, but you do kind of turn into your parents as you get older. Sure you do things differently than they did, but I find myself making up nonsense songs, talking gibberish to the dog, and dancing in the aisles of the grocery store. Thanks, Mom, for being you and Happy Birthday! I love you!

Kevin's Guitar Corner - Robben Ford

From time to time I'm going to do some guitar oriented posts about my favorite guitarists out there. There are a million to choose from so in no particular order I'm starting with Robben Ford.

Today's entry is about one of my favorite guitarists as I mentioned above, Robben Ford. I had the opportunity to attend his guitar workshop up in Ojai CA last fall and it was great.

Ojai, for you out-of-towners, is up the coast just north of Santa Barbara CA. Great little town just east of the coast, inland a bit. It's a very artsy community. Great place if just to visit for a day too.

But back to Robben. He talked and played for almost 5 hours and we had a lunch break in between with fellow workshop guitarists in the little town. I've seen him several times over the years, at small clubs in Hollywood and bigger places like House Of Blues. I started following him during his Tom Scott and the LA Express days, back around 1977 after hearing the Tom Scott album Tom Cat which came out in '74. Back when I was teaching guitar in the late 70's, one of the best things I ever did was go to Venture dept store, which was pre-Target, in Tinley Park, Il, where I lived, and they had a cut out bin of vinyl. Robben's solo album The Inside Story was in there for 50¢, and there were about a dozen of them. I bought 10 of them for $5 and kept two of them and handed out 8 of them to my guitar students and said, 'listen and learn'. Best $5 I ever spent on music. It's basically The Yellowjackets as his backup band.

Robben mostly stood up there with his old Telecaster and an old Fender amp and went over jazz changes, chord structures, playing the blues a whole different way. He handed out about 20 pages of stuff to us all on chords, triads, altered scales, a Larry Carlton progression, shuffle blues and major and minor progression. All in all, it was a very good learning day and stuff to keep me busy for quite some time. A lot of the stuff was things I had learned somewhat a long time ago out of Mickey Baker's Jazz Guitar Book, of which Robben went over some, especially the jazz chords. He stressed chords, and how not a lot of people do rhythm or even know a lot of chords these days.

There was a question and answer time where we discussed the stuff he talked about. He talked a little about his history, working with such people as Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell and Tom Scott and blues great Charlie Musslewhite, where he got his start playing the blues. He talked about guitars and amps and even other guitarists, and how some people get famous and make a ton of dough for doing very little, and he was referring to The Edge in this particular instance, because he played a bit of a U2 lick to emphasize his point. I'm sure like a lot of jazz and blues musicians who may not make it big on the international scale of things, monetarily speaking, they get a bit peeved at what is out there music wise on the radio compared to what they themselves play. But blues or jazz is a niche market so to speak, and although it's a more highly regarded form in Europe or Japan, it doesn't get the respect or cash flow that Top 40 or whatever Lady Gaga is doing now. But Robben isn't really that bitter. He makes a nice living I'm sure. Plays an awful lot and is well respected by a million guitar players and singers and other musicians. Robben is a very personable guy and there's lots to learn from him. I'm glad he does these things. I'm glad I went. I want to go again the next time he's around.

A few days later he was playing in Studio City down at the Baked Potato club on Cahuenga Blvd. so I went with a friend and it was a great show. He even remembered me from 5 days earlier! The Baked Potato is a really really really small joint but full of music history. All the local greats and studio musicians have played here at one time or another or still do. It's such a small place you're never any further than 10 or maybe 15 feet from the band, and for an electric blues band like Robben Ford's it can get quite loud, but still worth it.

Tonight Shabby Roads Studios will be buzzing with the deafening sound of rock and roll magic. Yes, Don’t Tell Betsy is back at it and going deaf had never felt so good. Here are some riveting pics from our last session. Avert your cowardly eyes if you can’t take raw creativity at its most primal as it bubbles and explodes from the volcano of really good. Be prepared! This song is headed straight for you at the speed of massive rock.

Carissa tells the band, that when she first came to California, she made a living performing prostate exams on the L.A. Lakers.

Big D. always gets a little peckish when he smells the blood of an Englishman.

It took many months of intensive and expensive peripheral vision re-training but both Darrell and Ellis can now appear to be looking directly forwards but they’re really staring at Carissa’s ass.

“Fuck, I can’t remember where I left my teeth?”

“Owww! Something in my purse just bit me.”

Things are going well till Darrell espies something he’s never been able to sing…Musical notes.

Nothing cracks Big D. up more than being shitfaced drunk at 8:30 in the morning.

Kevin is in trouble. He’s overdosed on his Viagra and his fist is trying to mate with his face.

“Ellis, you’re tripping again. There aren’t any brain eating leprechauns living inside your headphones. Just put them on.”

The boys put together a sophisticated pastry tribute to their lead singer.

Carissa continues to collect vital and conclusive evidence in her massive sexual harassment suit.

Kevin celebrates doing a number five. That’s two 2’s and a 1.

After five killer spliffs, the boys take rip off their clothes and perform “The Lifecycle of the Earth Worm” to a recording of “Thus Spoke Zarathustra”.

Shabby Road Studios - The "She Already Knows" Sessions #2

The Shabby Road Studios mob is back and recording a new song. They’ll be back at Sanctuary Entertainment to record the vocals in about two weeks but for now it’s balls to the wall rock & roll hell as they lay down their steamin’ tracks to “She Already Knows”. And just like on our last single, you are their for every painful, unentertaining second of it, because that’s jut how we treat our fans.
So buckle up, turn on, tune out, change your oil regularly and prepare for the musical ride of your young lives.

“How can something that large even form up your nose?”

Kevin demonstrates how he plans to get lonely sailors to come into our gigs.

Kevin and Ellis in fervent prayer. “Please Lord, let this pot before us be better than that really shitty last batch.”

“Dear Big D., could I buy some of that wild, wonderful, luxuriant hair off of you? Or perhaps I could just stand under it for a night and remember what once was? Signed an anonymous bandmate.”

Kevin tries to play it cool, but Carissa knows it’s only a matter of time before his double dose of Viagra kicks in.

“So I said to the custom’s officer, ‘How the hell should I know how five pounds of suspicious white powder got up my rectum?’”

So I said to the physician , “Longer than four hours? I thought the ad said longer than four inches!”

The band’s legal council strictly forbade me from posting any of the 237 captions I came up with for this picture.

“Dear mom, you were right. I never should have come to Hollywood. I just hope that one day I can summon up the courage to poison their Polygrip and come home.”

Finally….Ellis made a poo-poo!

The Fab Faux@The Orpheum Theater-Review by Kevin O'Neil

I went to see The Fab Faux Oct 23 at the Orpheum Theater here in Los Angeles. I've heard about them for years. If you like the Beatles (and who doesn't?) and haven't seen the Fab Faux, make a point to check them out next time they are through your town. As it turns out they will be back at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles around this time next year. Go, you will not be disappointed.

The band is made up of music vets, with Will Lee (from David Letterman's band) on bass & vocals, who has incidentally played with all the Beatles. Jimmy Vivino (Conan O'Brien's bandleader) on guitar, vocals and he doubles up keyboards as well. Other members include Rich Pagano on drums who is a fabulous singer as well. Frank Agnello on guitar, vocals and electronic gadgetry. And Jack Petruzelli on keyboards, vocals and guitars and really anything else.

In addition to the band they also had a two piece string section, dubbed the Creme Tangerine Strings with a violin and cellist and the Hogshead Horns, a veteran horn section made up of former Blood, Sweat & Tears, and SNL alumni rounding out the sound. Also on hand was a harp player they brought out for Eleanor Rigby. She also played auto harp on another tune on Sgt Peppers.

This band does not really do copies of Beatles music like say a normal tribute band does with each member playing the part of John, Paul, George or Ringo. They all play or sing whichever song suits their ability best. Sometimes the drummer sings a John song, sometimes the keyboardist sings a Paul song or Jimmy Vivino in fact sang a Ringo song. It doesn't matter. What matters is the interpretation and the musicmanship. They do spot on recreations of the songs and in this concert they they did the complete Revolver and Sargent Pepper's albums. What a treat that was and from two different eras of the Fab Four's repertoire. Will Lee was just fun to watch and he is so over the top excited to play this music as it was so obvious by the good time he was having, dancing around, jumping, running around and behind the stage during the songs. Don't get me wrong, the others had a great time too, and they all played and sang wonderfully.

From the opening notes of Taxman right on through Revolver it was as though you might've been there at some point listening the Beatles go through their set, but in this 5 piece interpretive way. Imagine five part harmony Eleanor Rigby done live. One of my favorite songs on Revolver, And Your Bird Can Sing with it's doubled harmony guitar was just great to hear live along with the 3 part harmony vocals. There were things you'd never think to hear in a concert as many times the musicians had to double up on instruments, or little additional things like triangle, bells, whistles, snapping their fingers, etc. You never think about how many parts were recorded in a Beatles tune until you actually watch a band try and put them all in live. I've never seen a band change guitars as many times as this one did. They really kept their guitar techs busy every song.

They took a break between Revolver so you could stretch, get a beer, or a t-shirt in the great looking lobby of the Orpheum. This was the first time I'd been to the Orpheum and it's a grand old theater and it was recently remodeled in the last few years, and I highly recommend going to see a show there. The sound is great from anywhere in the room and it wasn't overpowering either. The band then returned to the stage with the opening chords to Sgt Pepper's to which everyone just loved. They powered on through Sgt Peppers until striking the last chord on A Day In The Life, to which Jimmy Vivino set his guitar down on the floor in front of the amp letting it feedback.

For the encore they did a 6 song set, which included songs like Money, & Ticket To Ride. Jack Petruzelli came out and sang an emotional Oh Darling, which really put it over the top. I think only Mr. McCartney himself does it better and not by much. They ended with a great version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps featuring Jimmy Vivino on guitar solos and as a special bonus at the end, the original acoustic guitar demo version of George Harrison's was dubbed into it while Jimmy played searing Eric Clapton like solos over it.

Like they say, they are not a cover band, they perform the songs part perfect and dig deep into the music to recreate all the parts live, even if they were multi-layered, or overdubbed to great lengths as the later Beatles stuff was often done. You may hear things you never heard before on record or even thought couldn't be recreated but they are. Out of a score from 1 - 10, I give it a 12.

Shabby Road Studio’s – To Premiere “The Way I Do!”

They said it couldn’t be done…and so far we haven’t done it. But soooooooon! Yes, we will be premiering our new song, The Way I Do, right here on the Don’t Tell Betsy blogsite in less than 24 hours. (give or take) Get your hankies out ladies and germs, cause it’s a sad one. But, as consolation, we are offering one last round of laughs before we break your hearts. So here are some brand new pics of our recording sessions, expertly captioned by a sweatshop full of professional comedy writers.

Ellis and Big D. both spot a month old M & M in the carpet. This can only end in blood.

“It wasn’t an M & M. It was an old Teddy Bear’s eyeball.”

Kevin shows the band how he would walk down the runway, if he were on America’s Next Top Model.

Every time Carissa sneezes, all the dogs in the neighborhood stop mating.

Once, on a bender, Big D. attacked an entire busload of Japanese tourists that he mistook for Lilliputians.

“Idea: New names for band. How about Gramps with Amps or Grandpas with Guitars?”

When Kevin runs short of pot money, he routinely sells up to 6 pints of his blood.

“Maybe if I sit here and look as gay as possible, she won’t notice I’m staring down her top.”

“Ewwww gross! I knew those fuckers were staring down my top again. I just found a contact lens in my bra."

“Craig’s List. Singer available. Looking for bandmates who don’t just like, totally creep me out the whole fucking time I’m with them.”

“Rats! I guess I’m going to have to wear these glasses till I find my other contact lens.”

Absolutely nobody interrupts Ellis when he’s daydreaming about the tender white underbellies of penguins.

“Nope, I don’t see anything here about taking Viagra making your fingers go all stiff.

Shabby Road Studios - "She Already Knows" Sessions #2

Shabby Road Studios is back in action and heaven help those who try to stand in its way! Yes, you get blow by blow action of every second of our recording process. Nothing is left out. You are there whether you like it or not, through the sweat the strain and the pain. You’ll feel so close to the birthing of this song that you’ll beg for spinal drugs.

It is simply impossible to make Kevin smile when the band runs out of Efferdent.

Big D. tells Ellis about the time he was forced to eat a human hand when he ran short of Raisinets during a double bill at the El Capitan.

Every rehearsal, at precisely 8:00, Ellis puts his hand over his heart and faces Wavy Gravy’s house.

“Did that fall out of you or me?”

Carissa tries to imagine what all those tubes of stuff in Darrell’s medicine cabinet could possibly be used for.

“What is wrong with this new guy?” That’s the second time I’ve caught him looking at his music and not my ass.”

Kevin is slowly realizing that there’s more to life than entering Jack Cassidy look-a-like contests.

It took three bottles of Nyquil and a fist full of Zyrtec, but Carissa now feels Fan-fucking-tastic!

Big D. is sure he can hear tribal elders shoving live ducks into the muddy walls of an Apache sweat lodge.

“I can’t stand it anymore!! What is that wretched, disgusting, deafening gurglily-slurpy noise?”

“MMMMMMMMM Soup!!!”

“You know, even completely shitfaced drunk, these guys don’t look good to me.”

When called upon, Ellis can hit a D above high C in his pants.

Carissa shows why she no longer dates musicians.

Before joining Don’t Tell Betsy, Ellis played the bass drum in the Middle Earth Hobbit Marching Band.

Carissa loves it when Big D. laughs and all the records fall out of the shelves.

Ellis looks on wistfully and remembers his last birthday.

Shabby Road Studios – “She Already Knows” Sessions 1

Fresh from finishing the vocals on The Way I Do, the band jumped onto a new song like we were the Pony Express and it was a fresh horse. (the imagery here, is really quite stunning.) But, as everyone now knows, if we’re recording a song, we’re also letting our “Inquiring Minds” fans in on every facet of the grizzly process. So, here it is, in all its unvarnished and brutal verisimilitude.

This is Big D., our new bass player. His head is so large, it was once occupied by protesting Berkley students during the Summer of Love.

Besides playing incendiary guitar, Kevin also does one hell of a “ I’m a little teapot, short and stout.”

Ellis suddenly regrets all the corn he ate as a youth.

“Craig’s List – Singer Available. Prospective band members must never have drawn a crayon bridge on their television set to rescue Winky Dink.”

When Ellis is not wearing his glasses, any of us can be the victim of his “Come Hither” looks.

Carissa worries that Darrell’s double chin might be contagious.

After two Zowie Brownies, Ellis decides to let the mermaids living in his cheeks hear our new song.

Oh God. They can’t remember which instruments they play, again!

“If that’s what I think it is, we’re going to need way, way more rubber gloves.”

Big D. tells Ellis a story about a land where every chair comes equipped with a donut pillow.

“If I don’t do this every five or ten minutes, I can’t find it when I have to go to the bathroom.”

Upon arriving, Big D. says hello to the rest of the band.

Ellis relives a hot date he once had with Senor Wences.

Kevin is often startled by sudden movements. Especially sudden bowel movements.

“Darrell’s guitar has a hole in it. Maybe I can throw up in there.”

Ellis knows one sure fire way to prevent anyone in the band from stealing his drum sticks.

Kevin and Eric wait ever-so-patiently for Carissa to bend over.

Darrell goes off to the bathroom and Carissa realizes she’ll only have to put up with one of them for the next two hours.

“I do not know my own mind, Oh, Great One. I am only alive to do your every bidding.”

“What the hell kind of a song is this? Half of these musical notes are penguins fucking.”

“You see son, if you hold it with your hand like this, you don’t even need that screw I accidentally swallowed.

“If stupid was glue, those two schmucks could wallpaper New Zealand.”

Kevin looks as happy as a man can be when he’s peeing into his own Nikes.

“Any moron can see this is a peacock feather. I can’t believe Darrell thought it was an one-eyed alien hooker.”

“Ewww. That’s the second squishiest thing I ever sat in.”

“Every time I see you with that beard, I get a craving for Kentucky Fried Chicken.”

"Seriously, have you noticed that these guys are about a thousand years older than you?"

“She’s now deep inside the bowels of my recording booth…and it’s time that I put my secret and oh-so-evil plan into action. Bwa-ha!"

As soon as Carissa closed the door, Barry pulled a secret and oh-so-evil lever that started to transport her to a “Woman Auction” in the Andromeda Galaxy. Kevin was able to wrestle our engineer to the ground and Darrell hit the stop button. Luckily, she only lost a toe on her left foot and a small piece of her ass, which she said she didn’t mind.

“Hey, so sue me. They pay a lot of money for broads in Andromeda.”

“Wow! I think that bastard Barry is wearing my legs. How am I gonna get home?”

After 15 Crantinis, Carissa is a member of the best guys of a band in the world and stuff.

Because Barry is a really good guy, we must categorically state that none of the captioning to his pictures is in any way correct and does not in any way represent the very business-like way that Mr. Fasman comports himself.

Don’t Tell Betsy is back at Shabby Road Studios and they’re not taking any prisoners. Just how long can this fucking song take to record, you ask? (and many, many have) As long as we fucking well like! We did get a bitchin’ mix of what we have so far from Daniel K. We have a lead guitar to put on and then we go into Barry F.’s studio for the real vocals and harmonies.
In the meantime, here are some more pics from our ultra-super-intense recording sessions.

“Wo! I think eating that third “Zowie Brownie” was a total mistake.”

“I wonder why Ellis was so insistent that I eat this 4th brownie.”

Luckily for Ellis, the legal limit for drinking alcohol while playing the drums is

Just when any sane person would assume that we couldn’t possibly have any more to give, we gave more! (Don’t forget, when you make assumptions, you make and ass out of ump and tions!) More catatonically amazing music was bein’ laid down at the Shabby Road Studios last week and we’re making you apart of it whether you like it or not. So strap on your rock and roll seat belts and hold your nose, ladies and gentlemen. This is a bare-knuckled, no holds barred, hands off the steering wheel flight into the very epicenter of song creation.

“Damn! Never drink anything out of a cup on the band’s mandatory drug testing night.”

“Let me see. If he was born in this year and I subtract the present year from that, that means he’s…Holy Fuck!!!”

“Either Darrell put something in my water again, or I only just noticed that Ellis is a fire-breathing, dog-headed monkey.”

“Okay, I’ve had an erection lasting more that four hours. Should I call a doctor or the Press?”

“Please Lord, if you could just make them younger…or at least a little less smelly.”

“Wow! When this one reaches Carissa, she’s really gonna freak!”

The band is taken aback when Gregg drinks 13 Heinekens, pulls down his pants and does his impression of an elephant sneezing.

Shabby Road Studios - "The Way I Do " Sessions #4

The tension really builds on Gilligan’s Island and Ginger snaps….but I digress.
Don’t Tell Betsy were back at it last Tuesday at Shabby Road Studios and it was not very pretty. In fact, except for Carissa, nothing about the group is very pretty. But, where as most of those other asshole bands (U2? Metallica?) wouldn’t let you within a hundred miles of their creative process, This asshole band puts you at the heart of it. Before this song is birthed, you’ll live and breathe its highest joys and painfullest pains. You’ll be deafened by its labor screams. Perhaps you could be persuaded to pay for some of its medical costs? But, be warned, this song is comin’ at you like a freight train. If it’s like an Amtrack freight train, it may never get there, but then again, it might!

17 hours later, Ellis’ Preparation H, finally starts to take hold.

There really is nothing like a neck-high steel partition to keep the rest of the band away from our singer.

Ellis does the absolute best gay pirate impression in the free world.

Kevin just realized how old he is.

Nothing pleases Gregg more than beating everyone else to the last NutRageous Bar.

Ellis recreates his audition for “Brattleby, The World’s Saddest Boy Scout”.

"This reminds me of a blind date I once had with one of the Blue Men."

When all else fails, Ellis has to push the blood up his neck and into his brain by hand.

“Even on my worst, most shittiest day, I’m going to look like Eva Mendes next to these geriatric fucks.”

Ellis still hasn’t forgiven Gregg for eating the last NutRageous Bar.

“I will not look at Carissa’s ass. I will not look at Carissa’s ass. What’s that in my peripheral vision? Oh Fuck! I will not look at Carissa’s ass."

“Yep, the guys have been licking my microphone, again!”

“Half! That’s all I wanted. Last week you ate all the Twizzlers!”

“No Kevin, you’re not selling my mic stand for pot. Let go!”

“I found this little bit between my teeth. Three bucks or I wash it down with the last of my Long Hammer.”

To pass the time between songs, Kevin likes to perform unlicensed dentistry on the rest of the band.

If no one tells Ellis the rehearsal’s over, he will stand like this for days.

“So I said to the traffic cop, “If you think this is drunk, you should have seen me last night!”

“You see, I can touch it, of course it instantly kills anyone over the age of a million.”

This is Don’t Tell Betsy saying, “Please remember to drink responsibly.”

Another week, another ocean of blood and sweat poured from our writhing, pulsating torsos out onto the increasingly squelchy carpet at Shabby Road Studios. Never has so much pain and sorrow gone into one recording. (and this is before people have heard it) Once again, we give our fans unprecedented access to the indescribable torment and agita involved in the birthin’ of this here song. Ladies are cautioned to view these pictures in the optimum position for fainting.

“Someone has been in our stash bag, man. There was a whole half ounce in here yesterday. Where’s Gregg?”

You don’t know what lonely is, till you get to herdin’ cows.

“Hey mom! I’m in a real rock band. I mean it! I really am! I’ve got a guitar around my neck as I’m writing this. I’ll write again once we get to the Fillmore.”

Ellis occasionally flashes back to the time he ate the brown acid at Woodstock.

Kevin and Ellis engage in role play to perfect their “Begging Groupies for Sex.” technique.

When Ellis’ brain starts to itch, there’s no way he’s going to let a couple of eyeballs stop him from scratching it.

Kevin treats his guitar just like a woman. Therefore, he always leaves it frustrated and unsatisfied.

Because of his age, the band is used to Ellis dying at least two or three times a rehearsal.

Interesting band fact: Darrell can hold up to three quarters of a school of migrating grunion in his double chin.

Kevin collects detailed information on all the women who come to see our shows, like their home address and sensitivity to chloroform.

Ellis tries very hard to remember what instrument he plays.

When the band runs out of drugs, we just put our heads in this stolen paint shaker.

More astounding pictures from our night of a thousand guitar strings! There aren’t many bands that would let its audience this deep into their bowels of their mystical creative process. Luckily we didn’t let our audience in on the creative process of our mystical bowels. But I digress.

Share with us the pain, the laughter and that hard to reach itch of the song-birthing process. We breathe, eat and sleep music. That’s all you can afford to do when you have I-tune sales are as low as ours.

The boys sometimes have to put headphones on so they can hear the music over the creaking of their knees.

Kevin has this way of staring at you like you’re a really lickable sherbet.

“There just has to be a reason I can’t hear anything in these!”

Kevin sometimes has to bind his hands with electrical wire to prevent them from committing “Unnatural Acts of the Recording Studio”

After a tough practice Ellis likes to ingest Herculean amounts of mescaline and play the bongos to a roll of silver wrapping paper.

Alas, as the years go by, it’s getting harder and harder for Kevin to lift his guitar

Everyone in the band spends at least an hour a week practicing his or her “Embarrassing Celebrity, Mug Shot”.

Carissa didn’t always have knees this sexy.

Almost all of our show will feature Ellis doing spontaneous Irish Dancing.

Shabby Road Studios - “The Way I Do” Sessions #2

So, we’re back at Shabby Road Studios doing the acoustic guitars that we did last Saturday. Apparently a chord needed to be changed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the one on our headphones. Ellis, Kevin and Darrell were there till dawn sweating blood and tears (I’m not sure if you can sweat tears, but if it’s possible, then we did it) because that’s what you, the demanding public, expect from its greatest artists. So, here are a few pictures taken before much of the blood and tears really made everything too soggy to photograph.

Kevin recounts the time he once ate fudge and tapioca layer cake off Jackie Coogan’s head.

Kevin often falls asleep at rehearsal so he can dream about guitar-shaped women.

Shabby Road Studios – The Way I Do sessions. (guitar)

Today, we laid down two guitar tracks for our latest song between helicopters and some asshole revving his motorcycle right outside the loft. It was tense. It was vicious. It was a little smelly. In the end, music was created and there was much feasting and drinking from goblets. A goat was slaughtered in thanks and several villagers huts were put to flame. All in all, a good day. Here are some super ultra exclusive pictures of the creative process as it traspired.

Kevin tunes his guitar, while a peckish Ellis searches the boxes to see if there are any pre-war rations left.

If you flip Ellis and get “Tails,” this is what it looks like.
